FLIGHT TO THE POLE.
SUCCESS NEAR. DR. NANSEN’S OPINION. bY CABLE—PRESS ASSOCIATION—COP YEHIGT. LONDON, Sept. 10. The Geneva correspondent of the Daily Express states that Dr. Nansen, in an interview, said he was convinced that the next aerial expedition to the Pole would succeed. He had always believed the aeroplane was unsuitable because it could not carry wireless like an airship. Dr. Nansen added: “I shall probably accompany Captain Amundsen on his next trip to see the regions I visited on foot in former years.” The Rome correspondent of the Daily Mail states that Amundsen’s contract dor the purchase of • a dirigible shows, that the Italian. Government will co-operate to an important extent to ensure the success of the expedition. Besides supplying the pilot and crew, the Government has stipulated the region to he covered, has guaranteed the delivery of the airship at the Polar base, and has undertaken the establishment of supply stations and the provision of materials. It even proposes to erect hangars at several points in the Arctic.
