MISSING AVIATORS SAFE

PICKED UP BY SUBMARINE. ’PLANE ALSO RECOVERED. BY CABLE—PEES 3 ASSOCIATION—COPYEIGHT. HONOLULU, Sep. 11. The five officers and men of the missing American seaplane PN9I, which was lost during the flight from ’Frisco to Hawaii, were found alive and well adrift in the Pacific by a United States submarine on Thursday night 15 miles east of Kauai. The ’plane was found floating at 4 p.m., and it is being towed to Pearl harbour. WASHINGTON, Sep. 11. Mr Curtis Wilbur (Secretary for the Navy) and officials of the Navy Department are jubilant over the news of the safetv of PN9I.

Admiral Eberle, chief of operations, made the following statement: “It is wonderful news. I cannot find words to express my gratification. We had based our hope of safety on the staunchness of the ’plane, which might have drifted to port had she not had the good fortune to he picked up bv the patrol boat R 4.”
