THE AUSTRALIAN PAIR
SELECTION CRITICISED
BY CABLE—PRESS ASSOCIATION—COPYRIGHT
(Received Sen. 7, 1.50 p.m.) NEW YORK, Sep. 6. Adverse criticism has been levelled against Anderson for the substitution of Hawkes" for himself in the doubles. The reason for this step was the poor showing of the French in tlio national doubles and the splendid team work of Hawkes and Patterson. Although they were defeated in the final, the result of Saturday’s play showed that the criticism was justified, Hawkes was not equal to the strain. Had Andersen played the match would have been faster, with probably a different result. Anderson in a practice match with Alonzo on Saturclay displayed splendid form.—A. and N.Z. Assn.
