NORTH v. SOUTH

GISBORNE, Sent. 5. The annual North v. South Island ladies’ hockey match resulted in a draw, two goals each. The gam e was not of a high standard. There was a lack of combination in both teams, especially the North forwards. In the hah line North were better, but the full backs of the South team were excellent in defence. Throughout the game was evenly contested, and the final goal was not shot until a. lew minutes before time. Goals for the North' were stored by Misses Hill and Hamlin, and for South by Miss Ashley (two). The hundred . yards New Zealand hockey ladies’ championship was, won by Miss Eastwood (Poverty Bay), who beat Miss Cooke (Hawke’s Bay) by three yards, with Miss Hepburn (Poverty Bay) two and a half yards away. Also started: Miss Dawson (Wellington), Miss Clarke (Southland), and Miss Foreman (Ruahine). Time, 13sec.
