ALGARSSON IN TROUBLE. SHIP DISABLED. DR. NANSEN’S AIRSHIP TRIP. 3Y C 4 Br,T3—PRTIPO A Rf-'Ori ATTOV. -rry-p VH.IGHT Received Sept. 7, 10.35 a.m. BERLIN. Sept. G. Dr. Nansen has arrived to discuss nlans for the Zeppelin expedition to North Po ! e.—A. and N.Z. Assn. OSLO, Sep. 4. Captain Orettir Algarsson’s ship, the Iceland, was discovered partially disabled by engine trouble off Victoria Island a month ago, according to the Aftenpost. Captain Algarsso n declined the Italian exploration ship Quest’s offer to help, stating that he was determined to attempt to make land under sail, but last "week the ship was sighted in almost the same spot. Captain Peietti, master of the Quest, expresses the opinion that Captain Algarsson’s equipment and personnel are inadequate for Arctic work. He says the season is at present very severe.
Captain Algarsson originally intended an aeroplane exepedition to the North Pole, hut abandoned the idea in favour of scientific work around Spitsbergen.
Captain Algarsson is a young British Columbian. He set out from Falmouth on April 12 in the ship Iceland. He had hoped to race Amundsen to the Pole, but was delayed awaiting the delivery of Iris dirigible at Falmouth. His project was to fly from the ice-edge to the Pole in a small London-built airship, hut this scheme he abandoned, as the cable states. The Iceland is commanded by Commander Frank A. Vorsley, ot New Zealand, who was in charge of Shackleton’s Ajntarctio ships, the Endurance and the Quest.
