BAND CARNIVAL.
GENERAL MEETING. A meeting of the general band committee and ladies’ .committee of the queen carnival was held last night, when. Mr E. Dixon presided, over a large attendance. In opening the meeting he stressed the necessity of keeping down the expenses of the .carnival. Two on'diidiaiteS' hart so. far been nominated, and it was hoped that the musical societies would also •■■nominate a candidate. The Savage Club had intimated that it would support a musical candidate if one were nominated. The deputation had waited on the A: and P. Association, and it was believed that- it would nominate a. candidate. Mr MeL’Dowie had intimated that something definite wouldi be done, and had invited the. deputation to meet the committee at Matapxi to-night. The right spirit had been displayed in supporting the work, and Mr Dixon hoped the carnival would be suen a success that after the payment- of all expenses there would be a surplus to pay the expenses of the band at the first contest. * The question of the disposal of the funicls provided by the concert to be field next Tuesday evening was di. cciisscd. A motion that the funds Individed among the committees was lost, and mil. annenclmenti was carried that the proceeds go to the general fund to be used by the ladies’ bazaar committee for the purpose of buying material to be made up for sale at the bazaar. A deputation of Messrs Laurenson, Hawkins, Weir and Evans was appointed to wait on the A. and P. Association at Matapu to-night. Mr Rarlev said that lie believed the musical societies would nominate a candidate, but they would come to a decision before Monday.
