Mr. W. E. Leadley, secretary of the Christchurch branch of the 8.5. A., Avho was Asked to stand for Avon in. the Reform interest, has declined the request. At the monthly meeting of the Manaia Toavii Board, held last evening, a vote of sympathy Avas passed with Cr J. A. G. CosgroA r e in his recent bereavement, the meeting adjourning for five minutes. The statement lis being made freely in Parliamentary circles, says . the Christchurch Sun, that the Hon. Sir James Parr, Minister of Education and Justice', and Parliamentary repreiseaiitative for Elden, is to be the next High Commissioner for N©av Zealand,, in London, Avhen the term of office of Sir James Allen expires. Sir Jaimes Allen was Minister of Finance and Defence in the Reform Govern meat, .resigning those portfolios in 1921 to take the High Ooimmiksisionenship. His original term of office Ava.s extended some time ago. Outside of his Parliamentary activities, Sir James Parr has held many appointments in public life in Auckland. He Avas chairman of the Auckland Education Board between 1907 and 1911, and Mayor of Auckland for four years, from 19111' In 1916 he Avas a member of .the NeAV Zealand Parliamentary Cbrnmisision that visited the western front.
