Giving the boy sixpence, they sent him to buy some lollies, and meanwhile questioned the girl. When her brother returned the man told him that his sister was going to town to have some tea. and see the pictures, and that they would bring her home at 10 o’clock that night. They then gave the boy a ,shilbim' and sent him heme. 'the police were notified, and a search of the city was begun. When her parents were in despair the following afternoon the child returned home crying. She corroborated the earlier part of the story told by the boy, and said that after going to the city the strangers had taken her to tea at a cafe, and then to the pictures. They then took her to a room in the city, where she spent the'night sleeping with the two strangers; This morning she pried after she woke, and the woman took her to the ’bus about midday and sent her home.

The police are baffled to find a motive for this affair.
