WARNING TO BRITAIN.
RED TRAP IN CHINA. INSOLENCE OF CANTON. LONDON, Aug. 22. The newspapers warn the Government to beware of the Bolshevik trap in South China. The Daily Express says: “Precipitate action against Canton might involve ali China against us.” ■The Morning Post says : “Th e position is bewildering,ly complicated by Canton’s prac-ticiui *’ , independeneq ‘of I Peking. Representations to Peking avail nothing. Doubtless world affairs are too complex nowadays to allow of Lord Palmerston's direct and forcible methods, hut a little of his spirit would not he amiss.” I The Daily Telegraph says: “Public opinion is against solitary adventures in tlie Ear East, but will solidly support the Government- in. its assertion of long-established treaty rights, thus insolently invaded bv the usurping local Government at the promptings of our arch-enemies i n Moscow.”
