CARNIVAL FIXTURES.
GENERAL COMMITTEE MEETS. A meeting of the general committee controlling the Rami Queen Carnival was held in the bandroom last night, when Mr. E. Dixjoui presided. 'the secretary reported that only two nominations had been received lor queen candidates, namely, those of Miss Margaret Kirk (Hawera Scottish Society) and Mjisisi Maisie Jitstone (combined sports’ bodies). After scene discussion a resolution was passed extending the closing date until -Monday. next, in order to give an opportunity to the natives and the combined musical societies to nominate queens. A deputation of Messrs. Laturenson, Morgan and the chairman was appointed to wal|b on the vairious musical bodies. A combined concert has been arranged dor next Tuesday evening. Various details in connection with the programme, etc., were settled. A deputation wlais appointed to wait on Mr. L. O’. Hooker with regard to a quoit alt ion, for tliie use ol the \\ inter Show Hal' on certain occasions, and for a definite number of nights. Messrs Dixon, Simpson, Fox and Hawkins were appointed to tlie deputation. It was decided that the candidate comimiltteeis be responsible for all expenses, and. all amounts handed to the treasurer be net profits. lit was recommended that each queen Vs committee appoint one member to belong to a- committee to control publicity. It was decided to issue books of votes —each volte to coisit 3d —-and .the isecretary was authorised to proceed with the issue a.s soon as the candidates colours were known.
