IN A SOVIET DUNGEON.
BRITISH OFFICER’S ORDEAL. LATEST BOLSHEVIK OUTRAGE. LONDON, Aug. 17. Mr. .Suter, chief officer of the Glen liner Carnarvonshire, has been liberated after 10 clays’ imprisonment in a Bolshevik dungeon at Vladivostok. When his steamer was approaching the port a Chinese seaman was r caught pilfering in the forecastle. He was handcuffed to the rail and handed over to a Bolshevik policeman. Preferring to believe th e Chinaman, the policeman suddenly turned and arrested Mr. Stiter) who was imprisoned in a window,less ceil, being rationed on black bread and soup, after a njock trial on the charge of having deprived the Chinaman of liberty by a painful method of endangering bis life and health.
Only the most urgent diplomatic intervention secured Mr. Suter’s release.
