Bruce, .speaking on the second reading -of the- -Pleaipe Offiejers Bill, sai d th e Cbimmo-nwealith had approach - ed the New South Wales Ministry a,skin,g if there would be any objection. to the Common,wealth approaching the Chief Justice of New South Whiles and asking for the- use of one of tho Supreme Court judges fo-r the Deportation Board. The reply was that there was no nemsisiity for the Commonwealth Ministry to deport certain persons from Australia,. The Commonwealth, had means for: carrying out the object desired, and New South Wales refused to be embroiled in these proceedings, ns at considered the Commonwealth wtais trying to involve New South, AVale-s for pplitklal purposes. Alb midnight the .second reacting was carried by 32 votes -to 19. The Tirades Hall Council, after considering the ,strike, adopted the report Olf the disputes committee recommending that all jniter-Sitate labour ceunciilis, -andi Labour Governments co-operate to prevent the deportation of any citizen. The report stated that Mr. Bruce bad been informed there wlais no crisis warranting deportation, and. such- a course would precipitate an industrial crisis.
