RAILWAY TRAFFIC.
SUSPENDED IN QUEENSLAND. STRIKE IN FULL SAVING. ar cable-press association— copyright BRISBANE, Aug. 28. Railway traffic is completely suspended over the whole State. Strikers are posting pickets at many stations, A mass meeting of striker® at Brisbane decided to go on with the strike until the objective is achieved. The Government so far has conceded all the men’s claims except the right to hold stop-work meetings in working hours, but the men demand a complete surrender by the Government. At present -the outlook for a settlement is hopeless. The civil servants appear bent on aggravating the position. They propose to hold a. -stop-work meeting to demand the restoration of a 3611 hours’ working week, which was recently extended to 39£ hours. The general public of Brisbane relt the first effects of the strike to-day when many thousands, ordinarily usin<T the railroad to go to work, were forced to find other conveyances. Many were unable to reach the city owing to the lack of transport. Following a Cabinet meeting, a settlement of the railway strike is believed to be imminent.
