SHOT WHILE DANCING.
SENSATION AT A BALT.
WOMAN CHARGED WITH AIURDER
BY CABLE—PRESS ASSOCIATION—COPYRIGHT. PERTH, Aug. 27. During a public ball at Government House Cyril Gidley, aged 20, an engineer of a Government motor launch, was shot dead. Tlie tvagedy occurred while a dance was in progress. Gidley was dancing, when a single woman, Audrey Jacob, aged 20, walked up to him, and saying “I’ve got you,”<slie drew a revolver and shot him dead. ... Jacob was arrested and charged with murder. It is understood Gidley was engaged to marry Jacob, but that it was broken off. The ball was a charity one. Jacob attended as a pierette, but left and went home at 11 o’clock. About that time a shot was heard in the chambers in which she lived, but a search by the police failed to disclose anything wrong. . , Early in the morning Jacob returned to the ball in another costume. She was apparently surprised to see Gidley, whom she thought was away with his ship. The shooting then occurred. Jacob was charged with murder and remanded. Her demeanour was extraordinarily calm in court, and she was quite emotionless.
