KAPONGA DAIRY CO.

ANNUAL MEETING. The twenty-seventh annual general meeting of .shareholders of the Kaponga Co-op. Dairy Co., Ltd., wais com tunned yesterday afternoon. Further' business 1o 1 loving the adoption ol the. repo** and balance-sheet was as follows: QUALITY v. QUANTITY. In the <mi rise of a. tew sii-ppleiiieii-tii.cy remaik.s to li.ii- report, the auditor'(Mr. H. A. Lennon) congratulated suppliers on the result of the year s o[>eratio'iiis. Air. Lennon then made reference to the question of yield, which, he explained, had lately been the subject of considerable, comment in various quarters. He painted out that the company had been manufacturing a good article commia'iiding good prices for a considerable number of years, and while it might he thought that the yield in comparison with contemporary comipanieis might be naiiwed, .he gave a warning that the endeavour to .secure a high yield entailed certain danger to the quality of the prdouot, and urged that .suppliers content themselves with a fair average yield so long a® quality was maintained.

The chairman agreed that it was a. da.ngeroiu.si procedure to .strive injudiciously to place the yield on. the highest level. .Replying to the chaiirniiMi, Mr. Lennon gave the opinion that the proper way to work ia yield should not be from factory weights, but on the weight of the produce when it reached the market. He thought the whole question .should be gone into by the Dairy Division in conference with the dairy producers. The .secretary (Air. H. G. Cook) said that .no doubt daily companies .should endeavour to produce quantity, this being the fiawtor which influenced the return in cash. He considered, however, that in future the action, of the Dairy Control Board and the grade influence would automatical lv put the matter of yield on a .standardised bash, as the lower . cash returns for greater quantity, which sacrificed quality, would naturally cause manufacturing concerns to maintain quality first ami and quantity second. After further discussion, Air. R. D. Dagg moved a»s follows: ‘ |f l hat the directors bo recommended to instruct the manager to report any supplier or supplier's whose milk contained an excess of added water.” Air. H. Espinor seconded. He thought that the action of bringing a supplier before the directors would have the desired eftoot in a more efficacious manner than any other course. The motion was carried. OFFICERS. The retiring directors, Alessrs. AV, E. Hoi lard and P. Thoumine, being the only nominees for election to the board of directors, they were duly declared eleeetd.

Air. H. A. Lennon was re-appointed as auditor.
