PERSONAL ITEMS.
Mr Eric Leach, a graduate of the Otago School of Mines, has been appointed assistant oil geologist to the Taranaki Oilfields (Limited); which is at present carrying on boring opera; tions near New Plymouth and Tarata, in the Waitara Valley. Mr. and Mrs It. F. Pago joined the special train conveying the Empire Press Union delegates at Hawera this morning, anti represent the Hawera Star at tlie official functions to !>e held in Wellington to-morrow and Thursday. Mr. J. H. Hall, editor of The Star, took part in the proceedings at New Plymouth yesterday and forms one of the party as lar as Wanganui, where the party will bo guests at luncheon.
Air and Airs G. F. Rowe, who are leaving Eltharn. for Waitara, were tendered a farewell social in the' Foresters’ Hall last night by the members of the Foresters’ Lodge and their friends. Air Rowe was presented with a gold Eversharp pencil in recognition of his lodge work, and also ns a token of esteem in which he was held. At the request of the lodge, the Alayor, Mr Ira Bridger, made the presentation. He referred to the sterling character of Air Rowe and the excellent service rendered in the capacity of borough inspector.
