GIRL AND A CHINESE.
MURDER AND KIDNAPPING. WINNIPEG, June 25. Warrants have been issued for the acres,c. of prominent Vancouver citizens on a charge of conspiracy in aiding i,n kidnapping Wong Fung Sing, a t.lliinesie houweboy, accused of murdering Miss Janet Smith, of London, a 22-year-old 'servant in the household pf Mr. and Airs. F. L, Baker. It is alleged that the persons who kidnapped the boy failed to extract a confession, although he wa.s held a prisoner for a month. Those arrested include the president of the Scottish Societies, the secretary, ... police chief, detectives, the editor of a weekly newspaper, and members of (.he Scottish Societies, making a total of 20 person.s. The Attorney-General ordered the arrests in his vain effort's to prove that a wild party was held at Mr. and Airs. Baker’s, home the night Miss Smith was murdered, and it is alleged that the "irl wars injured during a melee and 'then shot dead by the Chinese to .suggest that the accident was a suicide. A. dispute over the payment of money to the guards watching the shack confining the Chinese caused one guard to inform the Attorney-General of the plot.
