HOCKEY.
It has at last come to the knowledge of the lady hockey enthusiasts throughout New Zealand (slays a Napier paper) that the New Zealand Ladies’ 'Hockey Association has awakened from their state of lethargy and decided 'where the New Zealand Ladies’ Hookey Tournament Is going to be held. They •have allocated the tournament to 'Poverty Bay. The tournament commences on Saturday, August 29. , “Hockey is an historical game. In fact, I think it is the oldest combined game,” .said the Mayor of Christchurch, Air. J. K. Archer, at the civic reception to the Australian hockey team in Christchurch. “Hockey is the parent of both cricket and golf. I played wolf years ago,” the Mayor said, “but I could not stand it.” By way of explanation the Mayor stated that he played golf in Yorkshire .in very rough Country and it was a question of spending three-quarters of a minute hitting (the ball and three-quarters of an hour looking for it. That was too slow (for him. He would like cricket better if all the 22 players were on the (job all the time. In hockey the playtors were all on the job all the time.
