A CHECK NECESSARY.
—♦ ■ GROWTH OF ART UNIONS. VALUE OF AMOUNT LIMITED. (BY TELEGRAPH. —PRESS ASSOCIATION.) WELLINGTON, Aug. 20. Replying to a deputation, which asked permission to conduct an art union in the interests of a sports body, the Minister for Internal Affairs said that they were getting beyond bound's. He had consulted the Crown Law Office, and had decided that in all future cases the value of gold to he raffled must not exceed £SOO. This should eliminate the growing tendency observable in this country to iet art unions grow beyond what <the Legislature contemplated. They were far too numerous, and he was surprised in some cases at the amount of running expenses.
