Births in England and Wale s for the quarter ended June 30 totalled 187,000, ecpiul to the lowest birth rate recorded in any second quarter except the war years 1917-19. The births comprised 90.000 males and 91,000 females. The deaths tota'led 112,000, which is 0.1 per thousand below the second quarter of last year, and comprised 58.000 males and -54,000 females.
