LATE SPORTING.
TRACK NOTES FROM TRENTHAM
(BY TELEGRAPH PRESS ASSOCIATION. WELLINGTON, Aug. 18. Although dull and threatening early this morning at Trenthm, later on the suit broke through, and the concluding part of the morning’s proceedings was disposed of in sunshine. The tracks are improving, and the times show that they are a great deal better than a month ago. The winter grass was in general u,se for fast work, but the sand was also available.
Star Ranger alone hit out freely in a gallop over six furlongs, which took 1.25 1-5, the last five in 1.11 2-5, Sir Pam was allotted a working gallop, of once round. Waetea and Axle sprinted half a mile in 56sec, the last three furlongs taking 40sec. Dick followed them in a steady round, sprinting from the three furlong past in 40see. Nine of Spades broke away at the six furlong jiost and, galloping, freely all the way, finished up his task in 1.22. the last five furlongs taking 1.10. Minotus and Indian Sage clashed over four furlongs in 56sec.
Nadarino alone was going well at the end of a smilar journey, which occupied 53s.ee, the last three furlongs taking 38 2-ssec.
Ardfinnari' was going very nicely at the end of a sprint over three furlongs, which took 43~sec. Eonmark was schooled over three hurdles, and then galloped six furlongs on the flat in 1.24. He is well forward. Matu and Royal Pointer finished together in a gallop over six furlongs in 1.23 2-5.
Miss Ford and Archeen were companions over half a mile on the sand, which took 49j-sec. This was a good crallop, especially on the part of Mies Ford.
Kilfane was going very nicely at the end. of half a mile, which took 53 2-ssec. Panchillies and a sister to Anthonie were sprinted. Anthonie was given work on the lead in the centre of the course.
Bright Eyes was in front of Peggy Ford at the end of a half-mile sprint which took 54 3-5.
Peter Maxwell jumped' better than Pritice Rufus when the pair were schooled over the hurdles in the centre of the course. They were given good pace work afterwards, sprinting down the straight. Tanadees and Zero Hour ivere not asked to exert themselves when running half a mile in 1.1. Little River and General Carrington went out to school over the hurdles. General Carrington slipped and fell at the first fence, carrying away a wing, lie was 'subsequently remounted and, with Little River, who had waited for him,, completed his task. The pair were afterwards given strong pace work twice round on the flat. Degage and Tresham both galloped very resolutely over six furlongs, finish ihg practically on terms. The full distance took 1.20, and the last five furlongs 1.6 1-5. It was a very good piece of work. S. Reid’s' two-year-olds were sprinted hp the back, and afterwards were exercised’ at the starting barrier in the centre of the course. Tinoknri was nicked up by Aeriform at the half-mile'post and galloped six furlongs in 1.22, the last live taking 1.9. Master Peter did a. very leisurely round. He looks healthy enough, but hardly fit for seasoned ’chasers. Gluement was schooled indifferently over the hurdles and did strong pace work on the flat. Glaive and Tresham were going easily at the end of five furlongs, run in 1.9.
Puwhero was out doing easy pace work. . Kilmer© finished practically on terms with Nancy Lee in a five-furlong sprint, which took 1.8 4-5, the first two being run in 29.
