ACCIDENT AT SAWMILL. (BY TELEQRAPH. —PRESS ASSOCIATION., TAUMARUNUI, Aug. 18. Alexander Peterson, a married man working on a breaking-down bench at Watkin’s mill, Kakalii, was struck on the head by a flying block. He was taken to the hospital where an operation was performed. A PROGRESSIVE FIRM.
WELLINGTON, Aug. IS. The Wellington Gas Company lias started erecting a new gasholder at Miramar, to hold two million feet. It is of spiral guided design, and is the biggest of this kind in Australasia. The chairman has anounced a reduction of the price of gas from October of twopence pea- thousand, also, the formulation by the company, with the assistance of the union secretary, of a superannuation scheme for the employees. MESSAGE TO ME WILFORD. WELLINGTON, Aug. 18. Mr T. M. Wilford has received the following message from the Auckland Provincial Council of the National Party: “The Auckland Provincial Council of the National Party records its deepest sympathy with, you on account of your enforced retirement from the leadership of the party through illhealth, and places on recoyd its highest appreciation of the great services you have given on behalf of the party and people of New Zealand, and trusts that your trip abroad will restore you to good health and on your return enable you to take your place again in the public life of this country.”
