N.S.W. RUGBY TEAM

ARRIVAL IN WELLINGTON

(BY TELEGRAPH —PREB9 ASSOCIATION,; WELLINGTON, Aug. 17. “Fast and nippy.” These are the words wit-li which Mr. Harold Baker, manager of the New South Wales Rugby football team, described the team, which arrived from Sydney by the Mannganui to-day. All were reported fit and well, and a statement that E, N. Greaterex, the big forward who toured New Zealand in 1923, was sjatring from the effects of an injureoßhumb was denied. Quite a iiumher of players are new to New Zealanders. The manager (Mr. Harold Baker) is a brother of the famous “snowy” Baker. He has been prominently associated with several branches of athletics in Australia. He has represented New South Wales at football and Australia at swimming, while he lias also won distinction at boxing. Mr. Baker is an able football coach. He is of opinion that the nippiness of the team would more than make up for the lack of weight. One of the fiveeighths (T Lawton) had played for Oxford and London, as well as N.S.W. and Queensland. Four of the players were from the country, and Mr. Baker was pleased to say that the Rugby game was extending there. He was confident that they would give every side they met a good game.
