COAL SUBSIDY

TO MINING INDUSTRY

CONDEMNED BY MR. THOMAS

BAD RESULTS INDICATED

BV CABLE—PEERS ASSOCIATION- -COCVEIGU'i

Received Aug. 18, 10.15 a.m. LONDON, Aug. 17. Mr. J. H. Thomas, addressing 10,000 railway-men at the annual demonstration at Liverpool, attacked the granting of the subsidy to the coal industry, which, he said, was like a dog eating its own tail. “I am frankly unhappy over the much-boosted recent victory,'” he said. “Nothing is more dangerous to the country’s future than for the employers and the Government to be compelled l to concede by force what they refused by reason, for it is making the working classes imagine that the only way to get justice is to threaten a strike. ue whole-heartedly supported the miners recent issue, and the Government should have recognised the reasonaKeiiess of our claims.” —Sydney Sun Cable.
