EGMONT PARK BOARD.
THE MOUNTAIN ROAD.
DEPUTATION TO MINISTERS. At the ordinary meeting of the Hawera Borough Council last night, Or Wnlklev mentioned the.fact that a big deputation was going to Wellington and would interview the Premier and Minister for Justice probably on August 27, with a view to securing the services of prison labour for the projected mountain roadway between Dawson Falls and Stratford house. As the Mayor would be in Wellington, Cr Walkley asked the Council to request him to attend with the deputation and lend his support to the proposed scheme. He added that the deputation had the support of the members of Parliament for the district, and that there would be absolutely no charge on the district in any shape or form, and no expenditure incurred, because prison labour would be asked to do the work. Cr Townsend seconded the motion that His Worship be a member of the deputation. He said he, considered the proposed road would be an excellent thing for the whole district. The motion was carried, and ITis Worship said that he would be pleased to do what he could to help the deputation.
