PARIS, Aug. 17. After twelve railway accidents in eighteen days, with a toll of 33^ killed and 190 injured, it is imt surpnsiH« that the travelling public is ; People are demanding a thorough investigation of the whole system ot signalling and types of carnages in third-class trains and gas lighting m some trains. The Minister tor Public Works has already made recommendations to the Government as a resmt of inquiries into the recent disasters. An express from the fashionable resort of Deauville had reached Nantes when the last coach, containing many English was discovered to be on hie owing to the overheating of an axle. The coach was taken off’ in the nick or time and the passengers transferred.
