There are 35,842 Crown tenants occupying 20 million acres, ot which.nearly half comprises pastoral runs. tire Crown Lands Department’s report states that the demand for land continues to be restricted, except for exceptionally good dairying country and >p?n sheep grazing land The areas selected last year totalled 463,946 acres, and the area opened during the year comprised 1009 holdings, totalling 182,789 acres. There were 463 forfeitures and 267 tenants surrendered -heir holdings, the total involved being 561 900 .acres, of which Otago and Southland pastoral runs account ror 164 000 acres. Postponement ol rente totalled £275,118 and arrears, which were reduced by £142,789, now stand at £301,659, a formidable total, uhich, sa y S the report, needs careful attention. —.
