(From Our Own Correspondent.) CHAMBER OF COMMERCE. The monthly meeting of the Eltham Chamber of Commerce w.as held last night in the Council Chambers. Those present were: Messrs Ira J. Bridge? (president), S. E. Carson, J. IV. Wilson, J. Carroll, A. Jackson, J. Peters, Garden and the secretary (Mr S. Prosper). Mr T. B. Crump was also present bA' invitation to speak on the proposed Egmont National Highways scheme. The president reported that the sign posts directing to Dawson Falls Mountain House had been erected. The town advertising boards in various parts of the district needed repainting and lettering and some repairs. It was decided to have the work done when sufficient funds were available. The chairman reported on his efforts to secure a visit from part of the press delegation which would arrive in Auckon the 23rd inst. His efforts dated back some six weeks, almost before the party .had left England. r J he secretary read various telegrams; and letters from the responsible parties, but so far the delegation was being entertained in New Plymouth only and was going to be shown the northern end of the province only. A committee of New Plymouth business men and others were responsible for the arrangements in Taranaki. He had offered to entertain a party of 20 and show them over South Taranaki, including the mountain. Members expressed regret that the effort had not been successful, as it would he impossible to get a good idea of the dairying industrv and the country from tbe windows of tlie railwav carriages. The nightwatchman reported navinp found seven doors left unfastened, five keys left in deni's, nine lights left burning and one lot of goods left outside. . .
