Valuable information is given hv ’he o-dieeuv-i of the Department of Agi’icnltu::i? at various pails of flic district from time to time, and this is much appreciated by the farmers of the province. Last night under the auspices of the New Zealand Farmers’ Union, Mr. CL Ford, stock inspector, went out to Tbkao.ca and gave the farmers of that branch a. talk on veterinary subjects which will be of much heljp to them in the course of their work. Mr. A. J. Ha.sei.tine, president of the branch, was in the chair, and briefly introduced Air. Ford, saying that the latter was well known to them and lure on many occasions given them valuable advice and help. Mr. Ford then spoke for about an hour and a half, dealing with contagious abortion, its causes, sources of infection, elect", diagnosis, prevention and control, and also on sterility, which is an effect of the abortion trouble. He also dealt with the best means of ensuring a perfect state oi iic-ailth in (rows at the time of calving, and also the means of dealing with milk fever. At the conclusion of the address, a long list of questions was put. to him ■)v members present, and in the coulee of the answers much information and practical advice were given by Air. Ford. ■ On thd motion of tbo chairman, a very hearty vote of thanks wars accorded the lecturer by acclamation. Air. Ford briefly replying and assuring members that if the remarks bad been of any value lie would be amply repaid.
