AERIAL TORPEDO.

EXTRA EDITION.

NEW ZEALANDER’S INVENTION

EFFECTIVE UP TO 100 MILES. BY CABLE—PRESS ASSOCI A.TION —COPYRIGHT, Received Aug. 11. 2.30 p.m. LONDON, Aug. 10. The Daily Express, states that Captain A. J. Roberts, of Wellington, New Zealand, lias invented a non-interfer-able aerial tome do, which can Ire direc. ted from the’ground, but cannot be controlled by any influence apart from the- individual in charge of the apparatus. It will bo demonstrated at the end of the month before the Army and Navy Air Force and post office officials. Capfc. Roberts, in an interview, stated that the device is a. miniature aeroplane, resembling a torpedo fired from a warship. It can be loaded with high explosives and launched against hostile aircraft. It can be manoeiivred until it rams the enemy. There is no difficulty in controlling an air torpedo for a. distance of one hundred miles, but the best results would be obtained when the objective was w'ithin the sight of the operator. The cost of air torpedoes would be little more than that of a motor bicycle. Cant. Roberts invented the first wireless torpedo used at sea, in early experiments at- by cine v in 1906.
