DEMANDS OF WATERSIDERS.
"WAGES FOR NO WORK. MORE TROUBLE AT LYTTELTON. (BY TELEGRAPH. PRESS ASSOCIATION.) CHRISTCHURCH., Aug. 10. Another hitch has occurred with regard to the discharge of phosphates from • the Pearl moor and guano from die Penmorvah A.s it was raining on Friday morning the men engaged ait these vessels, were ordered back for an. 8 o’clock start on Saturday morning. As it was still raining the men were again told to make an early start this morning. They were standing bv at S a.m. anti when the weather cleared two hours later they refused to turn to unless they were granted lull pay for Friday and Saturday. The companies concerned state that the men are entitled only to- standingr>y time from 8 till 10 o’clock on Friday and the same on Saturday moniuig, and cannot claim any remuneration for the intervening time.
A meeting of the Disputes Committee was .held this afternoon, when the employers’ representative asked Air. J. flyood, the workers’ representative on the committee, to endeavour to get themen to resume work and to leave the present dispute, together with the pre--r„-,s one. to be decTHed by the National Disputes Ooihm.iTotee at Wellington. The men declined to follow this course unless their demands were granted. Some of the Union Company hands already engaged at the Peaiimoor were subsequently 'transfer red to the Karet-u.
