The council of the New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association lias invited J. U. Scholz, present Olyunpic champion over 200 metres, in. company with the best middle-distance rtmner in America who is available to make the trip, to visit New Zealand in the coining season. Scholz, one of the finest sprinters in the world to-day, finished inches ahead of A. E. Porritt (Otago University and New Zealand) for second place in the last Olympic 100 metres. It had been Hoped to induce De Hart Hubbard, of Michigan University, holder of the world’s long jump record (25ft Gin) to make the trip to New Zealand. But Hubbard is a. coloured athlete and, although the United States is ready enough to accept his serices in winning her points at the Olympic Games, Scholz declined to travel with the negro. The New Zealand Council now proposes to ask two of the best Australian cyclists to join the Americans for the New Zealand tour.

For an appearance of the visitors in T-lawera the council is asking a guarantee of £SO, the figure demanded of the four cities being £IOO.
