NEW ZEALAND TEAM BEATEN

At the cricket ground to-day ten thousand people saw the New Zealand League team defeated by Quensland by 29 points to 20. Th© visitors showed unproved form, but the speed of the Queensland wingers won the day. The visiting forwards gave a fine exhibition. Queensland kicked off in dull weather and scored eight minutes from the start when Mcßrien broke through in the home twenty-five. The New Zealanders continued to have the best of the play,- but though losing in the scrums the speed of the home backs resulted in two tries being scored. New Zealand opened their account following prolonged iiressure, when Gorman mull, ed the ball and Brisbane got across. New Zealand took control of the game. Saunders beat the full-back and scored brilliantly. Thus encouraged, the black forwards pressed hard and caused Queensland to save. In the last twenty minutes of the first spell New Zealand scored twelve points and Queensland juoiip. At half-time the scores were: —New Zealand 15, Queensland 13. Queensland scored early in the second half, hut New Zealand attacked bril-. iiantlv and a try and a goal put New Zealand in the lead. Then dazzling play by flic Queensland wingers raised tho crowd to a high pitch of excitement. Ay ns ley gave a wonderful exhibition, scoring three tries in succession. New Zealand were unable to make up the deficit. The scorers of Queensland s tries were Aynsley (4), Horder, Mcßrien and Ripineii, while Holder and D. Thompson each kicked two goals. Tries for New Zealand were secured by Brisbane. Saunders, Thomas and Bclgrosso. Duftv converted two and kicked two penalty goals. Brisbane played in place of Webb.

South Sydney won the Rugby League premiership, beating Eastern Suburbs bv 8 no hits to 5.
