HAWERA BAND.
PAST MONTH’S ACTIVITIES, The steady progress being made by the Haiwera- Municipal Hand is indicated, in the bandmaster’s July report to the committee, Lieut. Fox, in that report, states as follows: “During July fourteen band parades were held, ten being rehearsals, and four concerts and engagements. Two sacred concerts were also given, and the band also played for two evenings a,t- the Winter Show. The average attendance at all parades was 28, which shows the spirit of enthusiasm which prevails amongst the members.. “During the month the band was unfortunate to lose the services of Mr. M. Gisborne (solo cornet), who has removed to Wellington. However, whilst expressing regret at Mr. Osborne’s departure, I am pleased to state that three new members have joined up. They are Mr. Mitchell (solo cornet), late of Palmerston North, Mr. Newton (solo cornet), late of Wellington, and Mr. Drabble (tenor horn), late of Auckland. Three quartettes and about 20 soloists have entered for the Hawera eoiiipoVti olls , and 1 feel certain they will make a good showing. 1 intend to hold a competition amongst our own members on the Monday prior to the Hciwera, competitions (quartettes and solos), when I mould be pleased to see all members of the committee' present-.'
