Major de Pinedo, chief of the Italian Air Force, who is engaged on a flight from Roane to Japan via Australia, continued his flight to-day after his stay here to see the American fleet, and arrived at Brisbane four hours later. SYDNEY, Aug. 6. The farmers’ conference passed a resolution opposing any form of compulsory wheat pool under Government control. The child endowment scheme adopted by the Government will cost £2,250,000 yearly, Which will bo found by a, five per cent, tax oil the wages sheet of every employer. An endowment will not he paid for the first- child, but for the second and each subsequent child five shillings weekly will be paid until the child reaches the age of fourteen. Only workers receiving not more than £IOO a. year will participate. PERTH, Aug. 6.
An armed robber near Manjimup held up the manger and accountant of the National Bank, who were taking £IOBS to the timber mills at, Pemberton to pay the employees. The officials resisted and llie bandit, after shooting the manager (Mr. Barber) m the hand, seized the money, and escaped on horseback to fclio bush. A. search has so far been result-less. Official returns show that for the fiscal year 1924-25 the imparks and exports of Australia were valued at £318,803,576, the highest since the establishment pf the federation. The returns consisted of exports valued at £161,100,111 (an increase of £41,618,947), and imports valued at £157,097,465 (an increase of £16,479,172), compared with the previous year.
