Colonel IJ. C. Freyberg, V.C., who started a Channel swim from Cape Grisnez at 8.20 last night, was compelled to give up half a mile from the English shore at Kingsdown at 1 o’clock in the afternoon. He was abreast of St. Margaret’s Bay at 12.30 in. an exhausted condition, and was unable to make headway, although sheltered by the accompanying tug. He once drifted back thirty yards. Occupants ol the motor-boat cheered and shouted, “Not ihat wav o'd fellow.” His condition was such that he did not appear to understand.—Reuter.
