N.Z. AUTO CYCLE UNION.

ANNUAL CON FEE KX CE. The annual conference of the New Zealand Auto-C.vele Union was held at. Auckland a lew days ago. The Haweia delegate was Mr. A. \Y. Spragg. Reference was made in the annual report to the undermentioned matters, * among others: — Finance.-—This year 151 riders were registered, fees amounting to £lB 17s 6cl, whilst affiliation and subscription fees totalled £SG 8s 9d. 'The General Account shows a small profit on the year’s working of £l6 12s 7d, The lie lie vole nt F’und 5 per cent, gate money amounted to £l9O 18s. Last year under the old charge the revenue was £244 13s 9d. Injured riders received in compensation and medical expenses £Bl Us. £IOO was added to the deposit in the. P.O. Savings Rank, and the Benevolent Fund closed with a credit balance of £BB 4s 5d a.k against £lll 17s 5d last year—a profit of the year's working of £76 17s. The assets of the Benevolent Fund are set down at £776 13s sd, including deposit and interest at the Post Office Savings Bank of £6BB 9s and £BB 4s 5d at Bank of New South Wales. The assets in the General Account are estimated) at £lsl. 16s with a liability of £2s 2s. REMITS.

Included in the remits dealt with were the following: — That all handicappers approved by the N.Z.A.O.G. be obliged to forward immediately on the completion of their race meeting particulars of the handicaps and' results of their meetings to the secretary of the union and that results be available to any approved handieapper at any time on application to the secretary.

Riders will be charged a registration fee of 5s for the first year and 10s for any year thereafter. Riders must register with the secretary of the union, whose receipt alone entitles riders to participate in benevolent funds in case of an accident.

Chibs must supply a. statement of accounts of all motor cycle race meetings on the N.Z.A.C.U. uniform bal-ance-sheet before July 1 in each year. The union may appoint an executive committee of three delegates (including the president) who shall have full power to carry out all duties in coufnection with, motor jeyelc racing in accordance with the rules of the Union. Three to form a quorum. If necessary the Executive Oimmittce may order a special meeting of the Union to he called at any time. All entries must b© accompanied by a fee of 10s, such, amount to be credited to the sides at the meeting. In the event of a. non-appearance of the sides the matter of refunding the fee be left to the discretion of the clubs. All machines competing at race meetings held under the rules of the N.Z.A.C.U. must have exhaust pipes turned horizontal. Mr. E. C. Gaisford was appointed to consider the riders’ colours question, and submit a -colour scheme to the next annual conference. Every rider must give the number of his machine engine when accepting for a race. Classification of riders is to be under club control. Riders will use the same number throughout a race meeting. Riders must nrovide number plates (blank) ,fastened to head ami front forks of machine. Clubs must provide allot numbers from 1 up, the said numbers to be fixed on plates by officials of the club. Sizes of plates to be circular and eight inches in diameter lor front and ten inches in diameter for side. Ridel’s to use the sam c number throughout the meeting. All riders must be lined up alongside the inner rail behind each other for preliminaries and races. GENERAL. The secretary was instructed to write to • the Minister of Internal Affairs asking for totalisator permits for motor cycle race meetings and also for permission to hold sweepstakes ;■ also to the Department of Motor Vehicles Re. gistration, asking his opinion re registration of racing motor cycles.

Mr. AY. A. Spragg was appointed a trustee of the benevolent fund in place of Mr. J. R. Perry. Information is to be obtained from the Brooklands Club (England) as to tlieir course measurements for records. ELECTION OF OFFICERS.

lii retiring from the c-hair, Mr. E. C. Gaisford stated that lie had occupied the position of president of the Union for 2) years. The affairs of the Union during that period had prospered, due to the good work of the secretary. He thanked the delegates for their loyal support; He had accomplished his ambition in his election as president of the Union, and in retiring had pleasure in nominating Mr.-W. A. Spragg (of TTawern). A better president could not he found in the Dominion. Mr Spragg had always taken a keen interest in motor cycling and attended the majority of meetings in the North Island, and was always willing to help the club. Mr. Tonnsley (New Plymouth) seconded the nomination and stated 'that it was through the efforts of Mr. Spragg that the New Plymouth club was a prosperous body. Messrs. J. Kay and A. AY. Smith endorsed the previous speaker’s remarks and Mr. Spragg was elected president 'by acclamation. Messrs. E\ C. Gaisford (Pangitikci), S. AverilL (Hastings), and A. AY. Smith (Hamilton) wer e elected vicepresidents. Mr. Ken. Fowler (Marton) treasurer, and Mr. F. H. Hathcrly (Marton) auditor. Mr. A. Way was re-elected secretary at a salary of £.IOO per year and a bonus of £25 was voted for the last season’s work.

Messrs AV. A. Spragg (president), H, 13. Burrell (bedding), and E. C. Gaisford (Hangitikei) were appointed an executive committee.

The following handicappers were approved of: Messrs E. C. Gaisford (Ran. gitikei), J. Kay (Auckland), A. Bariev (Hawera), P. J. Williams (Hamilton), H. 0. Findlay, and J. C. Coot (Blenheim) and F.
