THE PACIFIC.
GROWING IN IMPORTANCE. NEW TREND IN POLITICS. j Y CABLE—TRESS ASSOCIATION —GOBY RIGHT NEW YORK, Aug. 4. The Evening Post, in a leader entitled “Gazing on the Pacific,” says: “The exchange of courtesies such, as occurred between Mr Coolidge and the Governor-General of Australia, once more brings to the mind the increasing importance of the Pacific area. As the world gazes more and more intently at Balboa’s ocean the world’s politics are gradually undergoing a vast change. The lonely outpost of the British Empire can no longer look toward London without seeing the United fixates first, for tho United States is the key nation of the Pacific. The politics and aims of Australia and the United States must always he similar. It is the first duty of statesmanship to make them so, or it will he worse for both America and the Empire. Upon the realisation of the new trend of international politics toward the Pacific and the new problems thereby created depends, in large measure, the future peace of the world.”—A. and N.Z. Assn.
