CROSS-COUNTRY RUNNING. A RECORD LOAVERED. (BY TELEGRAPH. PRESS ASSOCIATION.) ' DUNEDIN, Aug. 3. E. L. Brown, of the Civil Service Club, who won the Otago four miles’-cross-country championship in 28.4 at Wiiigatui last year, succeeded in lowering his record by winning this. year’s race on Saturday in 27.38. The Caversham Club again won the teams’ championship, retaining the banner for the third successive year. -Brown, Frye, Tapp, Cox, Hobbs,' Douglas, and Emerson (emergency), represent Otago in the New Zealand championships. PROPOSED AUSIT OF AMERICANS. AVELLINGTON, Aug. 3. Among the names suggested for the team of American athletes to visti New' Zealand are Scholz, Osboirne and Hartrauft. A letter received from Air Krog— -> ness, who acts for the Athletic Association of the United States, states that Scho’iz and Osborne were in the first flight of the American championships recently held in San-. Francisco. The--former jvon the 220yds and was second in the 100yds. which Air- Krogness—thinks he would also have won but for an error of judgment. Osborne .won, . . the high jump at 6ft. 7iii., and also the decathlon. Air Ivrogness requests that an early selection be made in order that the arrangements for the tour may be settled' as early a s possible.
