COST A LOT OF AIONEY

MEMBERS NOT SATISFIED

BY CABLE—PBESS ASSOCIATION—COPYEIGHT. Received August 4, 1.30 p.m. MELBOURNE, Aug. 4. At the .annual meeting of the Victoria Racing Club, the committee was adversely criticised over the improvements in the shape of increased accommodation at Flemington Racecourse. The report showed, that these cost £284,000, of which £141,000 was expended on the stand. The club’s (reserve and contingency funds had been exhausted, and as there were still many improvements to be made, it was decided to increase members’ subscriptions from six to nine guineas, and to raise the entrance fee from thirty to forty guineas. Amongst the complaints voiecd by members were the following :—That the improvements prevented them from seeing the finish of the race, and that the coinmitee had ineffectively spent a lot jd F money and made a muddle of the ~ wrk. In reply, the chairman stated that plans included the removal of the winning post, but that could not be carried out at present. The meeting granted the widow of the late secretary, Mr Bryan Moore, an annuity of £IOOO for the first year and £SOO thereafter.
