NATURE OF NEW INSTITUTE. (by TELEGRAPH. —PRESS ASSOCIATION.., WELLINGTON, August 3. Professor Oouclliffe, on his return from Honolulu to-day, declared that the Institute of Pacific Relations, recently formed there, was not a pacifist body, but it aimed at building up in each of the Pacific countries an organisation for the study of real facts on international problems and to organise perodical conferences, at which men of influence and standing, iiv these countries could discuss ways and means of building up such an. international organisation, on the basis of the A\ a shine; ton Treaties, as may prevent the possibility of war. The President was Dr Ray Lyman Wilton, who was president of the Behind Stanford University and brother to the secretary for the L'.S. navy. Another prominent member was George Grafton *\\ llson, a leading naval authority and drafter of the Washington treaties. No reoslutions of any kind were passed by the Institute which merely devoted itself to drafting a. constitution. He had been asked to form a branch in New Zealand.
