PATEA HARBOUR BOARD.

ArONTHLY AIEETING. The monthly meeting of; the Patea Harbour Boarcl was held yesterday at Patea. Mr A. T. Christensen presided, and there were also present Alessrs J. R. Corrigan, ALP., E. A. Pacey, A. N. Williams and A. H. Hodge. H ARBOUR AI ASTER’S REPORT. The harbourmaster reported that the channel over the bar was straight, with about 12ft between the' walls and 14ft on the bar at high water spring tides, . and about 9ft between the walls and lift on the bar at high water neap tides. The bar was sounded on July 31, and there was then 9ft on the bar, with 4ft on the tide gauge. Except for a slight shallowness in one or two places the conditions were the same as last month. There had been eight arrivals and departures during the month. Th© report was adopted. DREDGEM ASTER’S REPORT. The dredgemaster reported shifting\ 2080 cubic yards from the river at Oakley’s corner. The groyne was . practically complete. It had been found necessary to use a considerable number more logs in the groyne owing to the muddy nature of the river floor and the timber being all waterlogged. The river had silted slightly since soundings had been taken previous to the last meetng. A large log abou 50 feet long and of four feet diameter had become foul of tli© piers of the training wall. Before it could he cut up and liberated it had broken off two piles. The dredge was in excellent working order. The report was adopted, the opinion being expressed that the dredgemaster was . doing good work. GENERAL. Following an Order-in-Council having been passed specifying that harbour board should provide stretchers as _a means of conveying men to medical aid if injured while working in the hold of a ship in port, it was decided to purchase a stretcher as required. The board agreed that it could not see its way clear to keen an employee in instant readiness to use the appliance in case of accident. An offer had been received from a AVanganui marine dealer offering 30s a ton for all scrap cast iron that could be supplied by the hoard. It was decided to accept the offer, subject to permission to sell being obtained. An inquiry with regard to Taranaki ironsand leases has been received from Australia House. London. The matter had been referred to Mr Dickie, a past member of the board, wlio was in London at the time.
