The appointment of Mr. T. C. Stanners to ,be a member of the Egmont Licensing Committee, vice Mr. A. H. Guy, is gazetted. Mr. T. M. Wilford, M.P., is stated to be far from well at present, and it is reported that he has been attended by three doctors at intervals for some time past. Mr. Wilford has, it is understood, been advised to rest. Mr. H. S. S. Kyle and Mr. C. M. OMivier have announced themselves as candidates for the Riccarton seat in tlie Reform interest. Mr. Kyle stood at the last election, beino- defeated bv Mr. G. Witty. Emphatic appreciation of the work of Mr T. J. Salmon as secretary of the -Meremere Dairy Company was expressed by the chairman, Mr J. E. 0 ’Shea, at the annual meeting on Saturday. Mr O ’Shea said that if they travelled the whole of the district they could not get another like him. He was to them a kind of managing director, and Ms work was very much, appreciated. Reference to Mr Salmon’s good work was also made by the auditors of both Mereuiere and Mells Companies.

Tributes to the good services rendered by Mr. Hartwig to the Demonstration Farm at Stratford during the years fie had been manager were paid by members of the committee at tlie annual meeting on Saturday. Mr. Were said he had watched the progress made, and considered they could not let the opportunity pass without giving expression to their appreciation. He knew Mr. Hartwig had heart and soul in the work, Mr. Richards said th e late manager had been competent and industrious, and the good results were largely due to his industry and keenness. Mr. Phillips and Mr. Marfell endorsed the remarks of the other sneakers. Mr. Deem added that Mr. Hartwig was an excellent man, who begrudged neither hours nor hard work in securing the results achieved. A very hearty vote of appreciation was passed to Mr. Hartwig.
