The annual meeting of the Kaponga Jersey Cattle Club was held in MessrsNewton King Ltd.'s rooms at- Ka|)ouga last evening There were present: Messrs D. I\* F. Malone (president, in the chair), J. M. Bentley, A. L Hooper, P. Horgan, H. T. M.cMillan, C. I>.1 > . Crowley, It. D. Dagg, J. Nicholson, L Joyce, S. J. Bollard, and M \Y. Priest (lion, secretary). Apoiofor absence were received from Messrs W. A. Guy, R. J. Morris, G. Cowling, and E. J. Sulzberger. REPORT AND BALANCE-SHEET. The annual report stated: Reviewing the second year of the club’s operations, claim may be made that it has continued to effect useful work on behalf of Jersey breeders in the district. The policy relating to the standard of offerings at the club sales has practically resulted in the elimination of the entry of culls from the ping, aIK ‘ breeders are evidently realising that l it is only by bringing approved animals forward that the reputation o.t the sales and the vendors* res-uoctiye breeds may be maintained. While prices are not as* high as in the previous year, as was only to be expected in view of the general decline throughout the Dominion, the averages realised at the bull fair and the female sale compared favourably with those obtaining at contemporary sales and members are to be congratulated on the results. " TT The field day, at which Mr. H. E. B. Watson again officiated as judge and demonstrator, afforded evidence of the value of such organisations. As the result of the demonstration given and the advice, made available much helpful information was gleaned, and the club is greatly indebted to Mr. Watson for his services. Thanks are clue to the breeders who attended, and who assisted by bringing their cattle forward to make the field day such a pronounced success. The annual social was held on the evening of the field day. The function again attracted a large attendance of Jersey breeders and others interested, and with the opportunity afforded for discussion and the exchange of opinion, proved interesting and enjoyable During the season an interesting lecture dealing with ' diseases in cattle and the means of giving relief was given under the auspices of the club by Mr. G Ford, to whom thanks are also due. The club highly appreciates the courtesy extended by Mr. Ford, who has given prompt and unfailing attention to requests made for his services in inoculation duties and assistance in other directions. It is pleasing to record that Mr. R. Dunn, of Auroa, a member of the club, secured tli e . Dominion gold medal for the iunior two-year-old under C. with his Lulala, who produced 6781 b of butter-fat. In conclusion, the committee hopes that the coming season will prove n successful one to members, and hopes they will continue their support to the club, and thus enable it to carry on with the service it is rendering .in fostering the interests of the Jersey breed in the district. The balance-sheet, disclosing a credit of £l9 7s, was adopted, members expressing appreciation of tli c favourable position shown. ELECTION OF OFFICERS.

The election of officers for the eiisuin<r year resulted as follows: I’resident" Mi-. I). P. F. Malone (re-elected); vice-president, Mr. S. J. Mollard (reelected); lion, secretary, Mr. 'M. W. Priest (re-elected); committee, Messrs .1 Nicholson?’ G. Cowling, and R. J. Morris (re-elected), E. J. Sulzberger, and A L. Hooper; * auditor, Mr. H. H. Henderson (re'-electod); delegates to the provincial council, Messrs Malone, Hollard, and Priest. FUTURITY STAKES COMPETITION Referring to the Futurity Stakes competition inaugurated last year, the chairman said the response had; not been as extensive as had been expected, and owing to several withdrawals only eight nominations now remained. Such a small number did not offer great inducement to owners to test, and it appeared that an alteration in the competition would have to he made, or if the meeting thought fit it could be abandoned , and reorganised at some future date. Mr Hollard suggested that the expense of the testing fees, involving the amount of £8 8s for the first animal, might account to some extent for the. small number of nominations. To overcome this difficulty he proposed that the section of the' competition dealing with butter-fat production he eliminated and the animals he judged on type only. It was left to the committee to make such, alteration as was deemed advisable. APPRECIATORY. On the motion of Mr Hollard a vote of thanks was passed in appreciation of the services rendered by the secretary (Mr Priest), who was also voted an honorarium of £lO 10s. The following were voted thanks for trophies presented for competition during last season : Messrs S. Turner, Dalgety and Co., G. Kent, H. Mellow, A. Packard, Hodge Bros., and H. P. F. Malone. Votes of thanks were also accorded the president (Mr Malone), vice-presi-rlent (Air Hollard), auditor (Air Henderson) and tile committee for their activities on behalf of the club during the year. Special mention was made of the services performed as auctioneer bv Air AY. R. Fcaron, acting on behalf of Aressrs Newton King, Ltd. GENERAL. October 31 was fixed as the date of the club’s 'annual bull fair, entries to close on August 20. Messrs Newton King, Ltd., were appointed auctioneers. It was decided that the subscription be the same as previously, viz., £1 Is. A r otes of thanks to the chairman and the nress concluded the meeting.
