MUSICAL COMEDY BY WIRELESS

CHRISTCHURCH, July 31. Through the medium of a two-valve wireless set, a party of four in Christchurch was able to hear the performance of the musical comedy “Kid Boots,” played in Melbourne Op Saturday evening. All the music came through distinctly.

CHILD SEVERELY BURNT

PAHIATUA, July 31. Lorraine Collier, aged ten the daughter of Mr W. Collier, of Mangamutu, was admitted to the hospital suffering from severe burns on the legs and body, caused by her nightdress catching fire.

FIRE AT PAHIATUA

PAHIATUA, July 31.. An outbreak of fire was discovered in the ceiling of Victor Levy’s shop (clothier and fancy goods) last evening, the shop is situated in the centre of a small block belonging to Mrs M. A. llurge (England). The damage done to the building was not extensive. The stock suffered to some extent by water and smoke and a quantity was destroyed The insurances on the stock total over £IOOO i n the Guardian office. Adjoining the shop were the Plunket and dental clinic rooms, which were affected bv smoke and water, and one wal' was it little charred. Much of the dental goods were removed to safety. A Chinese greengrocer. Y. C. Young, was in the same block of buildings. He discovered the outbreak, but bis stock suffered no damage.

Mr. R. S. Abraham, secretary of the New Zealand Association of Public Schools in Great Britain, has received advice from the private secretary of the Governor-General to the effect that His Excellency was pleased to accept the position of president of the association. i CANTERBURY REPRESENTATIVE TEAM. Owing to an injury, Harris, the Can. terbury full-back, will not play against Southland to-morrow, nor will lie go on tour. He will lie replaced by D N i xon.
