liie proposal that Mr Gray, who is president of the Egrnont Club, should oe made a life member, was made by .vir rt. McCarthy, wiio drew attention to flic, excellent services rendered by their president. He said that Mr u ray’s record was 27 years a member — and not only a member, but au active member; twenty-three years on the committee, twenty-two years as a steward,, eighteen years on the district committee, and in addition had devoted much of his time as a representative of the country clubs of Taranaki nil the Racing Conference. Mr McCarthy said that Mr Gray had made racing more or less a hobby, and he had consequently acquired a deep knowledge of the sport. He thpught the least the club could do in the case of a member having such a record, was to elect him a life member. Mr R. Hicks, a« the oldest member of the club, seconded the motion, which was put and carried amidst applause, Mr Gray, who had vacated the chair, .then returned to the -room, the vicepresident, Mr A. Good, announcing the meeting’s decision. ■ Mr Gray feelingly replied; stating that he thought the act- to be one of the greatest compliments paid him for, many a long dav.
