The Wanganui City Council has purchased three motor omnibuses at a cost of £llOO each. It is proposed to use these vehicles for suburban services in districts where there were no trams. “There will be no carry over of New Zealand butter this year,” said a. busi. ness man well conversant with the industry. “The local market is bare of supplies, and the shipment at the end of this season will be small. There 1 will be very little to send out till the end of August. Present indications are that there will be a rise in the price of butter in New Zealand to Is 0d wholesale and Is lid retail. It looks as if the early shipments next season will strike a good market, as New Zealand supplies will be cleaned out in London by the time they arrive.” The Shunting Inquiry Board, which was iset up by the Minister of Railways, the Hon. J. G. Coates, a few weeks ago, has commenced' its sittings in the south. The board is comprised of Mr. J. Brown, District Traffic Manaegr, Wanganui, Mr. H.. Smith, District Engineer, Auckland, Mr.. J. Ei. Perry, shunter, Dunedin, and Mr. S. Schofield, shunter, Christchurch. The board /is inquiring into the conditions under which shunters w'ork and also the facilities that exist for carrying out the work required of them. Evidence is to be taken in practically every town served by the railways. The shunters’ representative on the board, Mr. .Schofield, is the president of the Christchurch branch of the Amalgamated. Society of Railway Servants, and is also a national councillor of the society, being the representative of the traffic 'Section. For influenza colds take Wood’s Great Peppermint Cure. —Advt.
