ALTERATIONS IN TARIFF
BY CABLE—PRESS ASSOCIATION—COPYRIGHT MELBOURNE, July 27. The new traiff schedule has been prepared, and will be submitted to Parliament with the Budget. The alteration of duties' in a protectionist direction is restricted to a comparatWely few items, but these concern classes of imports which haY r e been pouring in and detrimentally affecting Australia’s most important industries. It is expected that the Federal Treasurer (Dr. Earl Page) in his Budget speech will announce that the burden of the income t*ix will be lightened by at least £1,000,000.
