A public: meeting at Wellingtofi bust night was addressed by D.r. W. Chapnle. formerly a member of the British Parliament, and Mr Leigh Hunt, on the necessity of the Dominion adopting a progressive policy towards securing a sufficient number of sutable migrants from the United Kingdom' every year and thus provide for the defence, prosperity and progress of New Zealand, and at the same time relieve the Mother Country of a of her surplus population. It was also advocated that full advantage be taken ol the British Government’s offer of a credit for development works in tbe Dominion, thus making largely increased migration possible. After the addresses had been delivered the above recommendations were framed in the form of a motion and carried.
