SYDNEY, July 27 ; . Ten thousand school children participated in a children’s demonstration in honour of .the American fleet on the cricket ground, giving costume exhibitions and folk dancing. , A train crowded with children taking part crashed into the dead end of the central railway station and threw the passengers into heaps on the floors of the carriages, but on'y one teacher and three children were injured, all slightly. After the first hectic rush the members of the fleet are beginning to visit the suburbs. Many private families are now entertaining the men at their homes, and a number of similar offers have been received from country homesteads. The Lord Mayor tendered the admirals and officers of the fleet a had at the Town Hall. There was a large number of guests and the function was successfully carried through. DOINGS AT MELBOURNE. MELBOUNRE, July 27. Although the Americans are genera.ly finding the city an ideal place for enjoying themselves, several reported to the police that thev have been drugged and robbed, hut 'these instances are rare.. . Admiral Coontz, in a statement, saul the welcome had been beyond expectations. Everything was so wed conceived in the way of entertainments that all the members of the fleet were delighted. The hospitality they had met showed the unequivocal friendship of Australia towards the United States, and they thanked Australia for it. The fleet repeated its searchlight disp’ay on Sunday night, although there was no mention of it in the official programme. Over 100,000 visited the ships on Sunday afternoon, and in the crush to get aboard there were thirty-five minor accidents. The men were entertained to-day at picnics, _ motor excursions. baseball and dancing.
COUNTRY TOWNS NEGLECTED

Received July 28, 11.15 a.m. SYDNEY, July 28. Few American suuovs are taking ad. vantage of oflers to visit the counti v towns. At Goulbourn the streets were gaily bedecked and largo crowds turned out to we Lome fifty visitors, but only two arrived.
